Can I run a mini skid steer on my existing lawn?

Yes, with reasonable care. Our stand-on mini skid steers are tracked, which spreads the machine weight across a wider footprint than tires would — minimizing turf damage. Lighter units like the CTX50 cause the least impact. The heavier SK1550 and SK3000 still ride on tracks, but they exert more pressure and are more likely to leave marks on soft or wet turf.

Tips to minimize lawn damage:

  • Avoid running heavy mini skids on wet or soggy lawns — wait for the ground to firm up
  • Vary your driving path — repeated runs on the same line create ruts
  • For finish-grade work or installations across lawns you want to keep, choose the lighter CTX50 or SK900 over the heavier SK1550 or SK3000
  • Make turns wide and slow — sharp pivots tear turf
  • Plan your in-and-out path before you start

For projects where lawn preservation is critical, we can advise on the smallest machine that will still do the work. Call (563) 271-4732 to discuss your project.
