What’s a Harley rake and when should I use one?

A Harley rake (also called a “soil conditioner” or “power rake”) is a skid steer attachment with a rotating drum studded with carbide teeth. It rotates against the ground and pulls soil, rocks, debris, and roots out of the surface while leaving a level, finely-graded finish behind.

When to use a Harley rake:

  • Lawn install prep: After grading the rough surface, run a Harley rake over the soil to break up clumps, pull out small rocks, and leave a smooth seedbed or sod-ready surface
  • Paver patio base: Finishes the gravel/sand base for pavers and stone
  • Drive prep: Smooths and levels gravel driveways and parking surfaces
  • Lot cleanup: Removes surface debris and roots before lawn install

The 72-inch Full Skid Harley Rake fits full-size skid steers (317G, 320G). The Mini Skid Harley Rake fits our stand-on mini skid lineup. Landscape contractors love these — they replace 30-60 minutes of hand-raking with 5 minutes of machine work. Call (563) 271-4732 to reserve.
